My research paper centered around the famous story Willy
Wonka and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. In this novel I highlight several
aspects that can often be overlooked when reading this book. Roald Dahl's novel
is filled with several different references to culture and religious views in
the 1960 British culture, and overall good themes. It was hard to narrow down to
just a few characters because all of the characters were created to highlight a
good moral lesson, and show differences in cutures. But, after much thinking
and consideration I decided to view the differences between Veruca Salt and
Charlie Bucket. More specifically, I took a look at how their lifestyles
mirrored their class systems and from there, how their personalities reflected
their moral behavior. Veruca, was a spoiled brat who wanted everything "NOW".
And because of this, she was not quailified to inherit Willy Wonka's factory.
Charlie, on the other hand, exhibited genuine behavior that in turn cause Willy
Wonka to set him apart from the rest. His meek nature and quiet personality
reveal his good moral behavior. Roald Dahl used Charlie to show that good things
happen to deserving people.
